Heating and Cooling in Santa Fe Springs, CA
In this former oil town, heating and cooling in Santa Fe Springs mostly means keeping working buildings running. The local economy is largely light industry, so office wings, shops and warehouses with rooftop units sit minutes from 1950s neighborhoods.

The city holds only 19,219 residents on 8.9 square miles, and that land mix shapes the work. Santa Fe Springs is about 7.8 miles from our Paramount Boulevard shop, roughly 14 minutes without traffic, with I-5 and I-605 exits in town. Facility managers and homeowners alike should call to confirm scheduling for your address.
Heating and cooling in Santa Fe Springs: what do light-industrial buildings need?
- Commercial HVAC repair
Office wings and shops lose a working day when a unit quits. We trace the fault first, then quote. With about 54,700 jobs in the city, tell us which suite and shift the unit serves.
- Rooftop unit service
Tilt-up buildings in the Carmenita area usually carry package units. Belts, coils, contactors and economizers need regular eyes. On 67.7 million square feet of industrial floor space, roof access varies, so describe yours.
- Commercial maintenance
Industrial dust clogs filters and coils fast, so plan shorter service intervals than an ordinary office needs. Industry covers about 58% of city land, so count what neighboring operations put in the air too.
- AC replacement for homes
About 44.9% of city housing dates from the 1950s, so many neighborhood systems are near a second or third change-out. Budget for a mechanical permit through the Telegraph Road counter.
- Furnace repair
Close to 78% of occupied homes here heat with gas, which keeps furnace work steady every winter. We test ignition, the flame sensor and the blower before naming a part.
- AC repair for homes
Homes hold only about 520 of the city’s 5,681 acres, yet 1950s and 2010s systems share those streets. Tell us the unit’s age first, since parts and refrigerant differ between them.
Oil field land, tilt-up buildings and 1950s homes
This ground made its name on oil. The Union-Bell well came in as a gusher in 1921, and the field reached as much as 345,000 barrels a day in the 1920s. The city incorporated in 1957, and light industry now fills much of the land around the old Four Corners at Norwalk Boulevard and Telegraph Road.
City figures show how lopsided that land is. A 2021 General Plan notice, using 2020 data, counted 3,322 industrial acres out of 5,681, against 520 acres of housing. Those industrial acres held about 43,330 of the city’s 54,716 jobs. That is close to ten jobs for every home, so a failed unit here is often a workplace problem first.

For HVAC, a tilt-up building is two jobs. The warehouse floor may have no cooling at all, while the office wing shares a wall with hot air and rolling doors. That unit works hard, often through long shifts.
Housing is small and specific: about 6,015 units at the 2020 census. Five-year Census estimates through 2023 show 44.9% from the 1950s and an unusual 14% from the 2010s, so a new-build near a 70-year-old house is normal here. Renters hold about 39% of occupied homes, so a landlord may need to approve a repair.

What happens on a call from our South Gate shop?

Give us the building address, roof access details and what the unit is doing. The technician comes equipped, pins down the fault and shows it to you, so you know the price before work starts. We test the unit under load when the repair is done.
Four Corners permits, Edison power and City Hall hours
Permit questions go to the Santa Fe Springs Building & Safety Division, 11710 Telegraph Road, (562) 868-0511, extension 7560. The city lists City Hall hours as Monday to Thursday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and it closes Fridays. Most accounts here buy electricity through Southern California Edison and gas through SoCalGas. Commercial accounts should check the name on the bill.
The permit counter keeps shorter hours than City Hall: 7:30 to 11:30 AM and 2:00 to 4:30 PM, Monday to Thursday. The city’s FAQ puts air conditioning and heating systems under a mechanical permit, says a licensed contractor or a residential owner-occupant must obtain it, and asks for inspection requests a full day ahead.
The city’s posted design criteria list a 95 mph wind speed under the 2025 California codes, so raise it if a replacement changes the curb or anchors. Ask Planning whether a taller unit needs screening from the street.
Finding your building from Hathaway Ranch to the Metrolink station
Telegraph Road carries City Hall, Norwalk Boulevard meets it at Four Corners, and Florence Avenue passes the Hathaway Ranch Museum. Other anchors work too: Little Lake Park, Heritage Park with its six-acre reconstructed ranch estate, the 1921 Clarke Estate and the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs Metrolink station.
Oil is still on this map. The General Plan notice describes vacant land at Telegraph Road and Bloomfield Avenue with active and abandoned wells.

Santa Fe Springs questions
How often should a Santa Fe Springs warehouse office unit get service?
Book at least two visits a year, and more if the building makes dust. Light-industrial air near Telegraph Road loads filters and coils faster than a typical office does. Check filters monthly during heavy production. A spring and fall visit catches worn belts, weak capacitors and blocked coils before a hot week or a cold snap.
Does replacing a rooftop unit in Santa Fe Springs need a permit?
Plan on one, and confirm with the city first. Call the Building & Safety Division at (562) 868-0511, extension 7560, with the address and the unit’s size. City Hall closes Fridays, so schedule any counter visit for Monday to Thursday. A crane lift or structural curb change can add steps, so raise those early and get the scope in writing.
What does Santa Fe Springs charge for a mechanical permit?
It depends on the equipment. The FY 2026-27 city schedule, effective July 1, 2026, lists $46.27 for issuance, $45.50 per furnace or compressor up to 100,000 BTU, $87.66 up to 500,000 BTU and $7.07 per air inlet or outlet. Plan check, where required, adds 50% with a $367.11 minimum. These are city fees, so confirm them at extension 7560.
