Heating and Cooling in Paramount, CA

Paramount is the closest city to our shop, about 2 miles down the boulevard that gave it a name, roughly 6 minutes without traffic. Heating and cooling in Paramount covers a wider range than most nearby cities: detached houses, big apartment buildings, 17 mobile home parks and light industrial space.

That mix is the local difference. The Census survey covering 2020 to 2024 counts about 10% of units as mobile homes and another 10% in buildings of 50 or more. The median build year is 1971, the newest among the cities closest to us, so a Paramount system may be 20 years old or 60. We start every visit by finding out which one we are looking at.

How long is the trip down Paramount Boulevard?

Our shop sits at 13440 Paramount Boulevard, in USA Business Park in South Gate. The road runs south into Paramount and serves as the city’s main north-south street, so this is the shortest drive on our map. Short does not mean instant: that time is a routing figure without traffic, and we schedule by the next opening during posted hours, Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5.

The visit itself follows the same order every time. Tools come with us, the fault gets diagnosed, and you hear it explained plainly. The price comes before work begins, and testing comes last.

From hay and dairy to mobile home parks

Paramount was hay and dairy country, and its last dairy closed in 1977. Incorporated January 30, 1957, it kept building through the 1980s and 1990s, which together account for more than a quarter of units. Only about 34% of homes predate 1960, well below its neighbors.

The 17 mobile home parks are where the city differs most. A mobile home usually needs equipment listed for manufactured housing, and short ducts under the floor are exposed to damage. A standard site-built furnace or a generic quote may not apply.

Who approves the work also changes. California’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) enforces mobile home park rules unless a local agency has taken that over, and HCD holds authority over alterations to manufactured homes. Ask your park manager which agency applies before a replacement, and get the answer in writing.

Heating data shows the same variety: about 56% of occupied homes use utility gas, 30% electricity and 11% report no heating fuel. About 57% of households rent. Industry never left either, and the Zamboni Company still makes its ice resurfacers here.

Chapter 17.36 of the municipal code, for the M-2 heavy manufacturing zone, says noise from compressors, refrigeration equipment or other mechanical devices must be muffled and held to street background levels at the site. Ask the city how that reads for a new rooftop unit.

South Coast AQMD is monitoring hexavalent chromium in Paramount’s industrial areas and posts the results online. That is a regulator’s job, and a home filter is no answer to it.

Permits and landmarks from the Hay Tree to Spane Park

For a site-built home or commercial building, the City of Paramount Building and Safety Division handles plan review and permits. Call (562) 220-2036. The city also runs an online portal for applications, fees, status and inspection requests.

Expect Southern California Edison on the electric side and SoCalGas on the gas side. Paramount also sits in Clean Power Alliance territory, so check your bill before you count on any rebate.

Local reference points are easy. I-105 crosses the north end, I-710 runs along the west edge, and SR-91 passes just south of the city. Paramount Park, Dills Park, Progress Park, Spane Park, the Hay Tree landmark and the Iceland rink, home turf of the Zamboni family, all make good cross-references.

If the AC quits in hot weather, Los Angeles County’s August 2026 list names Paramount Community Center, 14400 Paramount Boulevard, as a cooling center. It is available seven days a week, 8 AM to 6 PM, when temperatures exceed 90 degrees. Call before you go.

Which services fit a Paramount property?

  • AC repair

For the condo, apartment and tract systems from the 1980s and 1990s, now well into their second or third unit. Nearly 29% of units date from those two decades.

  • Furnace repair

Includes compact furnace closets in manufactured homes, where parts must match the listing. About 56% of occupied homes here also heat with utility gas, so expect burners and igniters.

  • Rooftop unit service

For light industrial and office buildings, where several package units share one roof. Commercial zoning also requires rooftop equipment to be screened from streets and neighbors.

  • Commercial HVAC repair

Dust from nearby industrial work clogs coils and filters faster than a typical office. In the M-1 and M-2 zones, tell us what the shop floor produces.

  • Heat pump repair

About 30% of homes here heat on electricity. Heat pumps in that group bring defrost and coil faults. Check the nameplate first, since electric heat may be a resistance furnace.

  • AC replacement

A unit in one of the 17 parks may need equipment listed for manufactured housing. Get the approving agency in writing before any equipment is ordered.

Paramount questions

Do you work on AC units at mobile home parks in Paramount?

Yes. Tell us the park, the space number and the make on the nameplate when you call. Mobile homes usually need equipment listed for manufactured housing, and the rules differ from a site-built house. Ask your park manager about access and approval first. We will explain what we find and the price before work starts.

Who approves an HVAC replacement in a Paramount mobile home?

Usually not the city. California’s HCD is the default enforcement agency for mobile home parks unless a local agency has assumed that role, and HCD holds authority over alterations to manufactured homes. Ask the park manager or call HCD to confirm which agency covers your park. Then have the contractor name the permit in writing.

How far is your shop from Paramount?

About 2 miles from the center of Paramount, roughly 6 minutes without traffic, which makes it the closest city on our map. Our shop is on the same boulevard the city took its name from. That is distance, not a promised arrival time. Call during our hours, Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5, for the next opening.

Can you service rooftop units on Paramount industrial buildings?

Yes. Tell us the number of units, the roof access and whether the building owner or tenant authorizes repairs. Light industrial roofs often collect dust and grease on coils and filters, which raises running temperatures. A planned maintenance schedule costs less disruption than a failure during a shift, so ask about that when we visit.

Why does my Paramount bill show Clean Power Alliance?

Paramount is a Clean Power Alliance community, so CPA supplies generation on many local bills while Southern California Edison still delivers the power. Your choice of HVAC contractor stays the same. Some rebates depend on your provider, so read the name on your bill and check any program’s current rules directly before you buy.
